Sony Xperia E5 – Will it beat its competitors?

Sony has been in the smartphone market since the beginning. Sony phones have great build quality, but they are slightly on the high budget. People prefer mid-range phones and Sony therefore started focusing on mid-range phones. In this post, we will talk about one such mid-range phone from Sony – Sony Xperia E5.

Design and Display:

Sony Xperia E5 is a budget friendly phone that comes with a 5-inch display. Sony Xperia E5 comes with the dimensions of 144 (H) x 69 (W) x 8.2 (T) mm. It is not thin as compared to other devices, but it is lightweight. Sony Xperia E5 weighs around 147 grams and will come in two colours of graphite black and white. Sony Xperia E5 is not water resistant or dust resistant.

Sony Xperia E5 comes with 5-inchdisplay, which lacks a Full High Definition display and 2k Display and rather uses HD display. The pixel density of the device is low with only 294 PPI pixel density. Sony Xperia E5 being a mid-range phone has ditched AMOLED display and uses IPS LCD display type. Sony Xperia E5 is not protected by any scratch resistant display. The screen to body ratio of Vivo X9 Plus is 69.2 %.

About the physical appearance, the device looks like any smartphone. There is a Sony logo on the front side and the logo is located above the display. There is a 5 MP front camera for selfies above the display. The front camera lacks LED flash. The area below the display has three capacitive keys which are invisible. The device lacks a fingerprint sensor. The power button and volume keys are located on the right side of the device. The device uses 3.5mm jack and supports microUSB 2.0. The back side of the device is made of plastic and has a matte finish. The back side features a 13 MP primary camera at the back, which comes with LED flash. The back cover of the device is removable and has 2300 mAH battery below the cover. The device doesn’t support fast charging.

Performance:

Sony Xperia E5 has, unfortunately, a small RAM for the budget. Sony Xperia E5 has only 1.5 GB RAM. As compared to other phones in the same budget, the RAM is very less. Most of the phones these days come with 2 or 3 GB of RAM. It hasMediaTek MT6735 chipset and runs on Quad core, 1.3 GHz, Cortex A53 processor. For graphics,ithas Mali-T760 MP2 GPU.

Software:

Sony Xperia E5will not run on the latest Android Nougat(7.0) but comes with Android Marshmallow(6.0.) out of the box. It will have its own custom UI on top.

Camera:

The camera configuration is similar to most of the mid-range phones. Sony Xperia E5 has 13 MP rear camera, which lacks optical image stabilization and Dual colour LED flash. Sony Xperia E5 comes with Autofocus and LED flash. The maximum image resolution of Sony Xperia E5 is 4128 x 3096 Pixels. Sony Xperia E5 supports usual shooting modes like burst shooting, HDR, touch to focus.

The front camera of the device is very small. Sony Xperia E5 uses a 5 MP front camera which lacks autofocus and flash. The video quality of the device is not confirmed.

Storage:

Sony Xperia E5 has aninternal storage of 16GB, which is expandable via a dedicated card slot.The memory of the device is expandable up to 200 GB.

Battery:

Sony Xperia E5 comes with a small battery of 2300 mAH. The device does not support fast charging or USB type C port. The back cover of the device is removable and so is the battery.

Connectivity:

Sony Xperia E5 is a single SIM device, whichsupports 4G among other networks of 3G and 2G. Sony Xperia E5 supports NFC and Wi-Fi 802.11, b/g/n. It also supports Bluetooth v4.1 and micro USB 2.0. he device lacks USB TYPE C port.

Price:

The cost of Sony Xperia E5 is expected to be Rs14990 in India.

Verdict:

Sony Xperia E5 is a mid-range phone with not so good features. The device lacks a fingerprint sensor and fast charging. The battery is also very small. There are many phones in the same budget with better features.
